Dipping a toe into politics

I canvassed 12 houses for Kerry in 2004, and in 1972 walked in and out of a Eugene McCarthy headquarters, without making a single phone call- the volunteers scared me, they were too intense. My candidates usually lose. The last political statement I made was in 1978, marching for the ERA (remember that) in Chicago, with my son perched in a baby backpack.

That baby is now 30 with a baby of his own. And this year, I'm tired of being scared, depressed and resigned to bad news. I've allowed myself to hope that the Obama campaign does represent something new. Does that mean I'll curl up and die if 1. he doesn't get the Democratic nomination? or 2. IF he is the nominee, he doesn't win the White House? I doubt it. Here's the worse thought. He does get through, beats the odds, becomes President and nothing in particular gets better.
